Krakow, December 15, 2015 – Selvita, the largest drug discovery company in Central and Eastern Europe, announced today that its Cell and Molecular Biology Laboratory has been incorporated into the European network of laboratories EU NETVAL (European Union Network of Laboratories for the Validation of Alternative Methods; https://eurl-ecvam.jrc.ec.europa.eu/eu-netval).
The NETVAL network includes currently 36 laboratories from the European Union. Selvita’s Cell and Molecular Biology Laboratory is the only one of two laboratories in Poland which has been formally incorporated into EU NETVAL.
The main task of this network is to cooperate with a group EURL ECVAM (European Union Reference Laboratory for Alternatives, the European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods), which is responsible for the validation of alternative in vitro methods, which will replace current methods involving laboratory animals. The aim of the alternatives is primarily reduce the use of laboratory animals in toxicological studies. EURL ECVAM is an organization closely cooperating with the European Commission.
The main goal of this collaboration is to develop new guidelines for toxicity testing of chemicals. “The inclusion of Selvita to this prestigious group of European laboratories provides another evidence that during the laboratory work we fulfill the highest quality standards on a daily basis. We hope that by participating in the EU NETVAL network our scientists will be able to take part in the development of methods, which in the future will become the global standards” – said Igor Rozanski, Quality Assurance Manager at Selvita S.A.
